The Ghosts of the Old South Still Haunt this Iconic S.C. Mansion

Rose Hill plantation was built in 1827 in Bluffton, South Carolina. It's known as one of the most haunted plantations in the United States. It has tons of wild roses positioned all around it and cotton was their main crop. It was built by William Henry Mills.

The Mills family supported the confederacy and they had slaves that were on their plantation working on the cotton fields. As the Civil War approached, a lot of these slaves ended up joining the army. The main house became a makeshift hospital where wounded soldiers would go and get the care they needed in order to heal.

With so many of the slaves joining the army, the plantation fell into disarray. The Mill family struggled to maintain it, so they sold the plantation.

The grounds of the Rose Hill plantation ended up serving as a cemetery for those who served and sacrificed their lives on these grounds. They say that a Confederate soldier's ghost-like object floats around the premises. People have seen sightings of this Confederate soldier.

There is also a Lady in White who has been seen through the main house. They say she is beautiful and that her dress flows as she moves around the house. People wonder if she is searching for her lost love. There are many stories about how she died. There are varying stories that she had taken her own life and another was that she had died from an accident.

The Rosehill plantation house sat until 1946. With all the people hearing whispers in the night, seeing flickering lights, hearing doors slamming and objects flying, feeling icy, cold spots, and hauntings of family members, a family by the name of Kirk eventually bought it.

Knowing that the atmosphere of the Rosehill plantation in Bluffton, South Carolina has many mysteries, it's definitely a place to go and visit.
